Fitness classes
near Canoga Park.

Society 3 is a coached group fitness studio at 21144 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, north of us, straight down Canoga Ave. Sixty minute classes, 24 people, cardio, strength, and functional work in every hour. Here is the drive, the parking, and what you get when you arrive.

01

From Canoga Park to the studio

From Sherman Way, point the car south on Canoga Ave or De Soto Ave and keep going. You cross Vanowen, Victory, and Oxnard, pass the Warner Center towers, cross the 101, and hit Ventura Blvd roughly three miles later. The studio is at 21144 Ventura Blvd on the south side, between De Soto and Canoga, so either avenue drops you within a block of the door. Topanga Canyon Blvd gets you here too, but between the mall and the freeway ramps it is usually the slow way. No freeway needed from anywhere in Canoga Park.

Turn behind the building for the free lot. Members park there with no time limit, so leave the metered spots on Ventura Blvd alone. The side streets off Ventura are free but have posted limits, and after a ten minute drive you do not want to be reading signs.

Arrive 15 minutes before class for check-in, warm up, and your machine setup, and sign the waiver online before you come in. Directions and a map are on the studio’s Google listing.

02

What the class is

Every class is the TriMethod: three zones, five minutes in each, three rounds, sixty minutes exactly. Cardio on your own machine at your own pace, strength at your own station, then functional work, with 90 second transitions and a two minute break between rounds. A coach runs the room from the first minute to the last, and the cap is 24 people so the coach can actually see you.

It is a group fitness class built as interval training, with longer blocks than a typical HIIT class and a strength block built in, which is why we wrote a whole page on how it compares to HIIT and circuits. Beginners are welcome and scaled, not sidelined.

Why people from Canoga Park make the drive

Canoga Park is close enough that the early classes are a habit, not a heroic act. Leave Sherman Way a little after 5:40, take the 6:00 AM class, and you are back north of Victory Blvd before the rest of the neighborhood is out of the driveway. Members from here fill the 6:00 and 7:15 AM sessions, and the ones who work in Warner Center take the 12:00 PM or the 5:45 PM and drive the last stretch home with the workout already done. The class is a 60 minute coached hour across three zones, cardio, strength, and functional, with your own station in each and a coach who sees all 24 people because there are only 24.

It is also the closest thing to a full program without a full membership. Canoga Park has plenty of open floor gyms where the plan is up to you; this is the opposite, a written session, a station with your name on it, and a coach counting the rest. A drop-in is $35 and packs run from five classes up, so you can build the habit before you decide whether to make it monthly. When you do, founding memberships are month to month with no contract.

Questions from Canoga Park

How far is Society 3 from Canoga Park?

About 10 minutes south on Canoga Ave or De Soto Ave, straight to Ventura Blvd, with no freeway involved. The studio is at 21144 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, on the south side between the two avenues, with a free lot behind the building.

Where do I park when I get there?

In the free lot behind the building. Members park there with no time limit. The spots on Ventura Blvd itself are metered, and the side streets off Ventura are free but have posted limits, so the lot is the easy answer.

Which classes fit a Canoga Park schedule?

The 6:00 and 7:15 AM classes are the popular ones from the north, since the drive is short and runs against no traffic. If you work in Warner Center, the 12:00 PM class is a short hop from the office and the 5:45 PM puts the workout between work and the drive home. Monday through Thursday there is also a 7:15 PM class, Friday ends with the 5:45 PM, and Saturday classes start at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00, and 12:30. Sunday is the Recovery Suite for members, not a class.

Do I need to be fit already?

No. Your cardio machine runs at whatever pace you set, every strength movement has a day-one version, and the coach scales each block to you. Tell the coach it is your first time or that you have a knee or shoulder issue, and they will hand you modifications. Participants must be 16 or older.

What is the cheapest way to try a class?

Two classes for $35 if it is your first time, which is the price of one drop-in, good for 90 days. After that a 5 class pack is $160 and a 10 class pack is $310, and founding memberships start at $169 a month with no contract. Book any TriMethod class on the live schedule and sign the waiver online before you come.

Is this a group fitness class or personal training?

A group fitness class, coached. Up to 24 people train the same hour together, each on their own machine or station, and one coach runs the room from the first minute to the last. You get the energy of a group and the eyes of a coach without booking one-on-one sessions. If you are comparing it to a gym near Canoga Park, the difference is that nobody here is working out alone.
