10 to 15 minutes from Encino

Fitness classes
near Encino.

Society 3 is a coached group fitness studio at 21144 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, east of us along Ventura Blvd. Sixty minute classes, 24 people, cardio, strength, and functional work in every hour. Here is the drive, the parking, and what you get when you arrive.

01

From Encino to the studio

Two ways west, and both end on Ventura Blvd. The surface street option is a straight line: pick up Ventura anywhere between Hayvenhurst and Balboa, drive west through Tarzana past Reseda, Tampa, and Winnetka, and the studio is on the south side at 21144, just past De Soto Ave and before Canoga Ave. The freeway option is the 101 west from the Balboa, White Oak, or Hayvenhurst on-ramps, off at De Soto Ave or Canoga Ave, then a few blocks south to Ventura. Off peak the 101 saves a few minutes. Around 5 PM the boulevard is usually the calmer bet and the clock reads about the same either way.

Turn behind the building for the free lot. It has no time limit for members, so there is no meter to feed and no clock to watch during class. The Ventura Blvd spots out front are metered, and the side streets off the boulevard are free but have posted limits, so the lot is the answer.

Arrive 15 minutes before class for check-in, warm up, and your machine setup, and sign the waiver online before you come in. Directions and a map are on the studio’s Google listing.

02

What the class is

Every class is the TriMethod: three zones, five minutes in each, three rounds, sixty minutes exactly. Cardio on your own machine at your own pace, strength at your own station, then functional work, with 90 second transitions and a two minute break between rounds. A coach runs the room from the first minute to the last, and the cap is 24 people so the coach can actually see you.

It is a group fitness class built as interval training, with longer blocks than a typical HIIT class and a strength block built in, which is why we wrote a whole page on how it compares to HIIT and circuits. Beginners are welcome and scaled, not sidelined.

Why people from Encino make the drive

Encino is not short on places to work out, and the stretch of Ventura between Balboa and White Oak has more than its share. What people drive the extra ten minutes for is the format: one 60 minute class that covers cardio, strength, and functional work, five minutes per zone, three rounds, with a coach on the floor the entire time and a numbered station that is yours in every zone. Nobody waits for a bench and nobody guesses what to do next. If you have been splitting the week between a cardio class in one place and a lifting session somewhere else, this is the hour that does both.

The other reason is the direction of the drive. If your evening already ends westbound on the 101, coming home from Sherman Oaks, Studio City, or over the hill, the studio is a few exits past your own. The 5:45 PM class ends at 6:45 sharp, so you are back in Encino with the night still ahead of you. Mornings run the other way: the 6:00 AM class has you headed east on the boulevard by 7:15, before it fills in.

Questions from Encino

How far is Society 3 from Encino?

About 10 to 15 minutes west, whether you take Ventura Blvd through Tarzana or the 101 to the De Soto Ave or Canoga Ave exit. The studio is at 21144 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, on the south side between De Soto and Canoga, with a free lot behind the building. From the hill streets south of the boulevard, add a few minutes to come down.

Is the 101 or Ventura Blvd faster from Encino?

Off peak, the 101 west to De Soto or Canoga is usually quickest. Around 5 PM Ventura Blvd is often the calmer choice and the time is about the same, since the boulevard from Balboa to De Soto is one straight run with no merging. Either way you finish on Ventura, and the lot is behind the building.

Where do I park at Society 3?

In the free lot behind the building, which has no time limit for members. The spots on Ventura Blvd out front are metered, and the side streets off Ventura are free but have posted limits, so turn behind the building and skip the meter.

Which class times fit an Encino commute?

If your day ends on the westbound 101, the 5:45 PM class Monday through Friday is the natural one: the studio is a few exits past Encino, class ends at 6:45, and you are home around 7. Monday through Thursday there is also a 7:15 PM class. In the morning, the 6:00 AM class has you back on the boulevard heading east by 7:15, before it fills in. Saturday classes start at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00, and 12:30. Check the live schedule for open spots this week.

Can I try one class before I decide?

Yes. A single drop-in is $35, and if it is your first visit you can get two classes for $35, good for 90 days. No membership is required to book, nothing rebills, and you sign the waiver online before you come so day one is a hello instead of paperwork. Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in, warm up, and your machine setup.

Is this a group fitness class or personal training?

A group fitness class, coached. Up to 24 people train the same hour together, each on their own machine or station, and one coach runs the room from the first minute to the last. You get the energy of a group and the eyes of a coach without booking one-on-one sessions. If you are comparing it to a gym near Encino, the difference is that nobody here is working out alone.

Coming from somewhere else in the Valley? Tarzana, Calabasas, and Canoga Park each have their own directions. Everything else is on the FAQ.
