5 to 10 minutes from Tarzana

Fitness classes
near Tarzana.

Society 3 is a coached group fitness studio at 21144 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, just east of us on Ventura Blvd. Sixty minute classes, 24 people, cardio, strength, and functional work in every hour. Here is the drive, the parking, and what you get when you arrive.

01

From Tarzana to the studio

You are already on the boulevard, so this is the easy one. Head west on Ventura Blvd from anywhere in Tarzana, past Reseda Blvd, Tampa Ave, and Corbin Ave, and you are in Woodland Hills. Keep going past Winnetka and De Soto, and the studio is on the south side at 21144, before you reach Canoga Ave. From the Corbin end it is closer to five minutes; from the Lindley end it is closer to ten. If Ventura is crawling, the 101 west from the Reseda Blvd or Tampa Ave on-ramp to the De Soto Ave exit is two quick exits, then a few blocks south to Ventura.

Turn behind the building for the lot. It is free for members with no time limit, so you can skip the meters on Ventura Blvd entirely. If it ever fills, the side streets off Ventura are free but have posted limits, so read the sign before you walk away from the car.

Arrive 15 minutes before class for check-in, warm up, and your machine setup, and sign the waiver online before you come in. Directions and a map are on the studio’s Google listing.

02

What the class is

Every class is the TriMethod: three zones, five minutes in each, three rounds, sixty minutes exactly. Cardio on your own machine at your own pace, strength at your own station, then functional work, with 90 second transitions and a two minute break between rounds. A coach runs the room from the first minute to the last, and the cap is 24 people so the coach can actually see you.

It is a group fitness class built as interval training, with longer blocks than a typical HIIT class and a strength block built in, which is why we wrote a whole page on how it compares to HIIT and circuits. Beginners are welcome and scaled, not sidelined.

Why people from Tarzana make the drive

Tarzana has plenty of places to work out, from the big gyms along Ventura to the small studios tucked into the strip centers, and some of them are very good at one thing. What is harder to find is a single coached hour that covers all three: cardio on your own machine, strength at your own station, and functional work, in a room capped at 24 so the coach can see every person in it. Nothing to plan, no waiting on a rack, no wandering the floor. You show up, and the hour is already built.

The other reason is that the drive is short enough to become a habit instead of an event. Ten minutes west on the boulevard, sixty minutes of class, ten minutes back, and the whole thing fits before work, over lunch, or after the evening crawl on Ventura has thinned out. If your day already runs along the Tarzana stretch between Lindley and Corbin, the studio is one more stop on it, not a separate trip.

Questions from Tarzana

How far is Society 3 from Tarzana?

About 5 to 10 minutes west on Ventura Blvd, depending on where in Tarzana you start: closer to five from the Corbin Ave end, closer to ten from Lindley Ave. The studio is at 21144 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, between De Soto Ave and Canoga Ave, with a free lot behind the building.

Is Ventura Blvd or the 101 faster from Tarzana?

For most of Tarzana, Ventura Blvd. The studio is only a few cross streets past Corbin, so the freeway tends to cost as much time on the ramps as it saves. From the east end of Tarzana, the 101 west to the De Soto Ave exit is worth it outside rush hour. De Soto runs south to Ventura Blvd, and the studio is on the south side between De Soto and Canoga.

Where do I park?

In the lot behind the building. It is free for members with no time limit. The spots on Ventura Blvd itself are metered, and the side streets off Ventura are free but have posted limits, so check the sign if you end up on one.

Which class times work best for a Tarzana commute?

Mornings run against the flow. At 6:00, 7:15, and 8:30 AM you are heading west while most of the Valley is heading east, so Ventura moves. The 12:00 PM is the easy one if you work along the boulevard. Evenings are the trade-off: the 5:45 PM has you driving west with the rush, while the 7:15 PM Monday through Thursday, or the 4:00 PM on Friday, misses most of it. The live schedule shows open spots this week.

Can I try a class before I commit?

Yes. A drop-in is $35, and if it is your first time you can get two classes for $35, the price of one. Those two book any TriMethod class Monday through Saturday and are good for 90 days. No membership is required, and you can sign the waiver online before you drive over so day one starts on the floor, not at the front desk.

Is this a group fitness class or personal training?

A group fitness class, coached. Up to 24 people train the same hour together, each on their own machine or station, and one coach runs the room from the first minute to the last. You get the energy of a group and the eyes of a coach without booking one-on-one sessions. If you are comparing it to a gym near Tarzana, the difference is that nobody here is working out alone.

Coming from somewhere else in the Valley? Calabasas, Encino, and Canoga Park each have their own directions. Everything else is on the FAQ.
