Why this helps your race

Running is a single leg sport in a straight line, and most training for it is more running in a straight line. That is where the problem starts. The hip that cannot hold you up on one leg, and the body that never moves sideways, are the two things that show up at mile 18 as something that hurts.

This hour is three zones, and you rotate through all of them with your group while a coach runs the room. The cardio goes up in three steps, easy, then threshold, then hard, so you practise holding an effort instead of drifting. The strength work is single leg: hip thrusts on one side at a time, loaded presses that make your trunk stop you tipping. The functional zone is the part runners skip, side lunges and skater hops and anti rotation core, all the directions a race never asks for and every injury comes from.

It scales to whoever is standing there, so bring your training partner whether they are deep in a block or have never raced anything. You pick your cardio machine when you reserve and it is waiting with your name on it. Sixty minutes, start to finish.

Good questions

Do I need to be in shape first?

No. Every level trains in the same room and coaches scale the work to you. Plenty of people in that room started exactly where you are.

Is it actually free?

Yes. No card at signup, nothing rebills, and there is no membership attached. If you cannot make it, there is no fee either.

What do I bring?

Water and training shoes. There is a refill station, three changing rooms and stocked bathrooms when you get here. Come 15 minutes early so we can check you in and show you around.

Is there paperwork?

One liability waiver, signed online when you reserve. Takes about a minute on your phone and it means you walk straight in on Saturday.

Where do I park?

Free lot behind the building, no time limit, for everyone. We are at 21144 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills.

Running late?

Text us at (818)-936-6229 and come anyway. Your coach will slide you in at the next zone transition.
